Tom Daschle, Another Mistake

Obama’s cabinet seems to be a walking financial nightmare.

There’s Timothy Geithner who failed to pay taxes, there’s Hillary Clinton who’s husband receives speaking fees from foreigners, and now there’s Tom Daschle, who, much like Geithner, made a “mistake” on his taxes. A mistake that ended up being worth $146,000 dollars.

The tax “mistake” came while Daschle was receiving a car service from a wealthy New Yorker. He claims that he asked his accountant if it would be a tax problem, and apparently his accountant answered no. Daschle knew he had to pay the backed taxes since June 2008 but never did because he thought his accountant was taking care it.

Is it just me or does it sound like he’s putting way to much confidence in his accountant? I wonder if his accountant sniffs a lot, maybe he’s doing drugs (don’t worry that’s a Seinfeld reference)

Either way, after Daschle was nominated for the health and human services position it took him a month to finally tell Obama that he kinda sorta had a tax problem.

Not to mention Daschle has received more than $200,000 in speaking fees from the health-care industry. He also worked at a lobbying firm. He wasn’t a registered lobbyists, but what’s the difference, he still partook in the act of lobbying. Daschle was a big adviser to massive hospitals and health care providers.

Not only that but he looks like Jake Jarmel. That was another Seinfeld reference, so if you don’t watch the show you may be lost.

Obama said today that he “absolutely” stands by Daschle as his pick for Secretary of Health and Human Services. Despite his tax problems, lobbying problems, and speaking fee problems. And again, Daschle committed a crime that you or I would have probably been put in jail for.

Wasn’t Obama’s White House suppose to be the height of ethics. It was suppose to be lobbyist free.

I guess Daschle is just another exception to the rule.

You’re right.

Part of me is really disappointed but the other part of me thinks “When Clinton lied, no one died,” especially since I’m so far mostly satisfied with what the Obama administration has done.

Should we place bets on who’s next?
